Check Compatibility

Ensure that the Apple device that you are using supports the AirPrint features

The following devices support the AirPrint feature

  • iOS devices with iOS 4.2 and higher
  • Mac computers with Mac OS X (v10.7) and higher

Next, check if your HP Printer supports AirPrint

  • print a network configuration page from the printer control panel
  • Under ‘Personalities and Options’ check if ‘AirPrint’ is listed
  • If not, then update your HP Printer’s firmware and check again

To update the printer’s firmware follow the steps given below

  • From your printer’s control panel locate the HP ePrint menu and update from there
  • Alternatively, in some printers you can update by selecting the ‘Setup’, ‘Service’, or ‘Settings’ menu

Update your Apple Device

Check and install the latest update on your Apple device

  • iOS – Open ‘Settings’, then tap on ‘General’ -> ‘Software update’, then install the update if it is available
  • Mac – Open the App Store, the click ‘Updates’, then install the update if it is available

Check the Network Connection

On your Apple device ensure that the ‘Wi-Fi’ is turned on and that the Apple device and your printer are connected to the same network

  • If your Apple device is connected to a different network, then change your network
  • In case you can’t connect to the network
  • Remove the power cord from the router and re-plug it after a few moments
  • If your wireless signal is not strong, move your Apple device and your printer closer to your network router

Now check if your printer is connected to the wireless network

Printers with a Touch-screen Panel

  • Tap on the ‘Wireless’ icon, then open ‘Network’ settings or ‘Setup’ menu to view the network connection status

Printers without a Touch-screen Panel

  • Press the ‘Wireless’ and ‘information’ buttons simultaneously to print the wireless test report
  • On some printer models to generate the wireless test report press the ‘Wireless’ and ‘Start Copy Black’ button simultaneously

Now do the following based on the network connection status

  • If your printer is connected to the network, skip to the next step
  • However, if your printer is not connected to the network, perform the wireless setup to connect your printer to the network

Ensure that the AirPrint Feature is Enabled on your Printer

  • From the previous step note down the IP address of your printer from the wireless connection menu or the wireless test report

iOS

  • Now on your iOS device open a web browser then navigate to the IP address of your printer
  • Thereafter select ‘Network’ -> ‘AirPrint’ -> ‘Status’
  • Navigate through any prompts that appear to reach the ‘Status’ page
  • In case the ‘Status’ if ‘off’ then select ‘Turn On AirPrint

Mac

  • On your Mac device open a web browser, then enter your printer’s IP address in the URL and hit ‘Enter’
  • Following this select the ‘Networking’ option, then click ‘TCP/IP Settings’
  • Thereafter check if your printer’s name is present under the ‘Bonjour’ section by clicking on ‘Network Identification’ option
  • Next, select the ‘General’ tab, then click ‘Energy Settings’
  • Ensure that the ‘All events’ or ‘Network port’ is also selected if ‘Enable Sleep/Auto OFF Timer’ is selected
  • Save your changes by clicking ‘Apply’
  • After that, click on the ‘Networking’ tab, then select the ‘Other Settings’ option from the left side
  • Lastly, ensure that ‘Bonjour’, ‘AirPrint’, and ‘IPP Printing’ options are all selected
